BUILDING ON BERNIE: WHAT COMES NEXT
Friday, February 12, 7pm - Brooklyn, NY
For photos from this event, go here. Bernie Sanders’ presidential campaign, which began as little more than a twinkle in the eye, has since given birth to a movement of millions. In the midst of a wild and unprecedented electoral season, Bernie Sanders has captured the hearts and minds of a generation with a distinctly different message: raising the specter of democratic socialism in the U.S. while calling for a people-based political revolution. But is his campaign—or even a possible term as president—enough to fundamentally reverse decades of rising inequality and injustice? How do we build a progressive movement of movements that keeps the Bern alive after the honeymoon has ended? This panel, co-organized with the Young Democratic Socialists (YDS), will look at the 2016 presidential elections, the momentum created by the Sanders campaign, and how all of us can work to turn this fleeting energy into a lasting movement for change.
Join speakers from the Democratic Socialists of America (DSA), Jacobin Magazine, #Students4Bernie, Working Families Party, and the Rosa Luxemburg Stiftung—New York Office for “Building on Bernie: What Comes Next,” on Friday, February 12, 7pm at the MayDay Community Center.
