PRIDE: A Film Screening
June 7, 2019 - New York City

(c) CBS Films

On the occasion of the 50th anniversary of the Stonewall Riots, which constituted a milestone for the gay liberation movement, we are hosting a film screening of the movie “PRIDE” (2014) by director Matthew Warchus.

Inspired by an extraordinary true story, PRIDE depicts the collaboration of a group of gay and lesbian activists from the UK and of Welsh miners during their strike in the summer of 1984. As both groups find themselves threatened by the Thatcher administration, they find that their solidarity is stronger than their differences. After a fundraising concert to support the striking miners, the gay activists receive a surprise visit at their annual Pride march in London.

Following the screening of the film, we will be hosting a talk with author and oral historian Anne Balay (Semi Queer: Inside a World of Gay, Trans and Black Truck Drivers, 2018) about the complex intersections of race, class, gender, and sexual orientation.

Join us for the free screening of this outstanding, award-winning movie at the People’s Forum (320 West 37th Street) in New York City.

The screening starts at 6:30pm. Doors open at 6:00pm. A light dinner will be served before the movie.

The admission is free, please RSVP here.

*The room is wheelchair accessible*

The movie is presented courtesy of CBS Films. To watch the trailer of the movie, please follow this link.
