SOCIALIST STUDIES CONFERENCE
June 4-7, 2019 - Vancouver, British Columbia

Susan Point

In early June 2019, the Rosa Luxemburg Stiftung–New York Office will participate in the Society for Socialist Studies Congress, which will be held on the traditional, ancestral and unceded territory of the Musqueam people at the University of British Columbia. This year’s conference will focus on a wide range of topics, exploring ideas of socialist liberation and the empowerment of disenfranchised and marginalized communities. The debates will be both theoretical and practice-based, historical and contemporary, and include topics such as socialist feminisms, ecological socialisms, socialisms from the global South, and critical Indigenous theorizing and resurgence, among others.

Our office will be sponsoring a session on “Rosa Luxemburg’s Theoretical and Political Legacy One-Hundred Years After Her Assassination,” organized by Ingo Schmidt (Athabasca University) and with participation of Sevgi Doğan (Scuola Normale Superiore), Andreas Günther (RLS–NYC), Sobhanlal Datta Gupta (University of Calcutta), and Julia Killet (Kurt Eisner Verein für politische Bildung e.V.). The session will focus on Rosa Luxemburg’s contemporary legacy and analyze to what extent capitalist globalization has created the conditions to link Luxemburg’s revolutionary politics—which emerged in a largely pre-capitalist and pre-industrial world—with her global analytical outlook.

More information about the congress can be found here.
